Martin Antush Obituary

Martin (Marty) Antush, 76, passed away unexpectedly on December 28, 2021. Marty was born and raised in Tacoma, graduating from Wilson High School in 1963. He served in the Air Force from 1964 to 1968, during which time he met his wife Janet while stationed in San Bernardino, CA.  Marty and Janet moved back to Tacoma with their young daughter in 1969.  Shortly thereafter, he began working as a Switchman for the Tacoma Municipal Belt Line Railway, now known as Tacoma Rail.  After a 35-year career with Tacoma Rail, he retired in 2005.  No one was a stranger to Marty, he was the type to strike up a conversation with anyone.  He left a lasting impression on everyone he met as he was friendly, inquisitive, and genuine.  Marty enjoyed golfing, fishing, and had an interest in photography.  He was proud of his well-manicured lawn and was an avid gardener.  Every summer he was sure to share his bountiful vegetable crops.  Marty cherished his family and loved spending time with them.  He was a phenomenal husband and father and was deeply bonded with his grandchildren and great granddaughter.

Marty is survived by his wife of 54 years Janet, daughter Sharil Smith (Kevin), son Jim Antush (Tami), granddaughters Rebecca Smith and Emily Smith, grandsons Brady Antush and Joel Antush, great granddaughter Ivy McIntosh, and brothers Bill Antush (Julie) and Tom Antush (Abby).

A celebration of Marty’s life will be scheduled for Spring of 2022.
