William S. Charlton

Obituary William was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1923, to the late Stanley and Florence Charlton. William passed away on December 28, 2018 in Lakewood WA. He is preceded in death by his wife Jeanne, his daughter Lorraine Ruff and his two brothers David and Donald. He is survived by his three grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. After graduating from High School in Cincinnati in 1942, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served as a pilot in Italy during WWII. Shortly after his return home after the war, he and Jeanne married on October 8, 1945 and enjoyed life together for 69 years. He continued his service in the Air Force during the Korean War with assignments in Japan and Korea. They had purchased a home in Lakewood to house the family while he served a 15 month unaccompanied tour in Alaska. After his retirement from the Air Force in 1963, decided to make that their permanent home. After moving to Lakewood, he began a new career with the Army at Fort Lewis where he served in the Master Planning Branch until his retirement in 984. After his retirement and his wife's retirement from her puppet activities, they enjoyed traveling to faraway places together and seeing many beautiful places and things. There will be no service and in lieu of flowers the family asks that you donate to the Tacoma Salvation Army. Interment at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA. Arrangements by Gaffney Funeral Home
