Timothy Kevin Thompson, beloved father, partner, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 4th, 2025, in Puyallup, Washington. He was 74 years old.

Born on December 11th, 1950, in Palo Alto, California, Tim was the son of Paul George Thompson and Carole Mae Bonrud. One of ten siblings, Tim was preceded in death by his mother, Carole; father, Paul; sister, Maureen Robillard; brother, Mike Thompson; and nephews, Drew Williams and Luke Posadas.

He is survived by seven of his siblings: Kathy Williams, Susie Christenson (Rob), Ann Parkey (Rich), Colleen Posadas (Joe), Chris Thompson, Tom Thompson, and Greg Thompson, as well as many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and -nephews.

He is also survived by his devoted love of 42 years, Tammy DeCato; his daughter and greatest pride, Allie Stevens; his son-in-law, Ryan; and his grandson, Colson Timothy, whom he affectionately called “The Dinger,” Tim’s home run of a boy. He was also eagerly anticipating the birth of his first granddaughter, Charlie June, due this November.

Tim dedicated most of his working life as a proud member of the Teamsters Union, retiring from USF Reddaway after 30 years. He also did concrete work on the side throughout his career, laying many driveways and lots for local businesses. Even in retirement, he stayed active, working part-time moving cars for Auto FX, where he quickly became a beloved member of the team.

He attended Catholic schools throughout his life and graduated from Bellarmine Preparatory School in 1969, where he was honored as Mr. Bellarmine, inducted into the Hall of Fame, and earned multiple athletic scholarships in football and baseball. Tim later became a proud Washington State Cougar.

Athletics were central to Tim’s life. He boxed, and played football, baseball, basketball, and softball — not just in school, but well into adulthood. He was a fierce competitor and loyal teammate for countless local teams over the years, including the Pierce County Boys and Girls Club, Golden Gloves, Pierce County Bengals, and many community teams from beloved establishments such as The Haven Pub, Michael’s 11-11 Tavern, Home Plate Tavern, Palmer Construction, Bergie’s Tavern, Little Jim’s Pub, and many more.

He enjoyed watching sports as much as he enjoyed playing them. He was an avid Seahawks and Green Bay Packers fan — his family was from Wisconsin. He also loved the Mariners and Golden State Warriors. He was always up to date on sports schedules and would plan his day around whatever game was on.

Outside of sports, Tim was a true outdoorsman who loved to fish — the river was his sanctuary. He found joy in cooking and sharing his catch, especially with his dogs, who were always near him and often receiving love and a bite of whatever was cooking. A BBQ grill, a cooler, Marshall Tucker Band on the radio, and good company were all he needed for a perfect day.

Tim was also a family man through and through. His bond with his grandson, Colson, was one of the great joys of his later years. The two could often be found riding in Papa’s truck, singing songs, playing catch, or sharing Cherry Jubilee ice cream by the pint. He was a devoted father to Allie — never wavering in his love and support — and played the role of Dad to anyone who needed it.

Known as a gentle giant, Tim had a heart bigger than his frame. He was a protector, a caretaker, and a true friend to all who knew him. His warmth, generosity, and loyalty left lasting impressions on everyone he met. To know him was to be welcomed into his circle — where you were always offered food, a story, and a laugh.

Tim’s presence in this world was one of quiet strength, enduring love, and unwavering loyalty. He will be missed beyond words.

A funeral service will be held on August 8th, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Pope St. John XXIII Church (formerly St. Ann’s Parish) in Tacoma, with burial and a reception to follow. Later that afternoon, a celebration of Tim’s life will be held at The Haven Pub in Parkland, WA — a place close to his heart. All are welcome to come share memories, stories, and honor a life well lived.
