Sr. Dolores Marie Hutson, O.P.

Sister Dolores Hutson was born in Porterville California. At an early age, the family moved to eastern Washington. Sister Dolores attended grade and high school in White Salmon and then went on to Central Washington State University in Ellensburg. It was in Ellensburg that she met the Tacoma Dominicans when she cooked for the sisters. At that time, she converted to Catholicism and a few years later entered the Dominican Sisters in Tacoma . In receiving the habit, she received the name Sister Mary Dorothy. When it became possible to return to our baptismal names, sister, Dorothy returned to sister Dolores. 

Following her profession, she taught in many of the schools in Washington and in California. She then became bookkeeper for the congregation, and during the summers studied for her master’s in business administration at Notre Dame University in South Bend, Indiana. She returned to congregation service as bookkeeper and as the resource and finance director. She also served as congregation secretary. In 1979 when Creative Dimensions was established, she changed from finance work to working for Creative Dimensions as an assistant Sister Philomena McCarthy. Once the congregation sold Marymount, Sister Dolores returned to teaching and taught at Holy Rosary school in Tacoma for several years. She retired in Tacoma and enjoyed listening to her music, reading and making calendars for her friends. As her health declined, she moved to Saint Joseph Residence where she spent her last years.
