Robert Casey Lane, beloved husband of Molly, proud father of Katie, Betsy, George (Cielito), Margaret (Charlie), Robb (Alia), John (Miles), even prouder grandfather of his ‘very nearly perfect’ grandchildren Amanda, Madeleine, and Sean Lane, Casey, Kathleen, and Mari Brown, Gracie and Clem Lane, Angela Lane, and Claudia and Ryan Modarelli, died on September 26, 2023, after a long illness. Born in Chicago on November 7, 1932, Bob was Jesuit educated at Loyola Academy and Loyola University. While serving in the Army and stationed at Fort Lawton in Seattle, he met the love of his life, Molly Herley of Everett, WA, and they wed in 1959. He attended Loyola University School of Law where he graduated at the top of his class in 1960. In 1969, Bob moved his young family to Tacoma, Washington where he began his long career with Weyerhaeuser. He retired as Vice President and General Counsel in 1997 after 28 years with the company. He later served on numerous boards, including as a member of the Tacoma Public Utilities board. Bob was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening, particularly attending to his prized roses. A runner in his early years, he became a walker after his retirement, and he could often be seen on long walks around the north end of Tacoma. In his later years he enjoyed volunteering with several Catholic charities and was unwavering in his love and commitment to his Catholic faith. Bob was wise, witty, caring, and unfailingly kind. He possessed a superior intellect, great integrity, and good humor. His wisdom and reassuring advice helped many people through difficult times. Notably, he was a humble man who was always quick to say “thank you” for even the smallest of kindnesses. He was dedicated to his family and faith and will be deeply missed by all who had the good fortune to know him. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Clem and Angela (Lavery) Lane and his four siblings, Rosemary Spoeri, Clem Lane, John Lane, and Sheila Purcell. Funeral services will be held on October 20 at 11 am at Saint Patrick Parish. For those who wish, donations in his memory can be made to St. Leo Food Connection, 1323 S Yakima Ave, Tacoma, WA 98405, www.foodconnection.org
