In Loving Memory of
Paul Bernard Bader
February 4, 1947 – May 2, 2026
Paul Bernard Bader of Tacoma, Washington, passed away on May 2, 2026, at the age of 79.
Paul was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife Gloria Jean (Tallman) Bader; his parents, Bernard “Bud” Bader and Pauline Bader; and his brothers, Daniel Bader and Thomas “Tommy” Bader.
He is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Lynne Bader and Nicole (Bader) Johnson; his cherished grandchildren, Kayla Johnson and Aaron Johnson; and his siblings, Stephen Bader (Judith), David Bader (Twyla), Marilyn Nesse, Joan Alsos, and Sharon Tollefson.
Paul graduated from Bellarmine High School, Class of 1965 and recently had the opportunity to attend his high school reunion, reconnecting with lifelong friends and reminiscing about his youth. He often fondly reminded his daughters that Bellarmine was an all-boys school during his time there.
Paul, honorably served for a time in the US Army Reserves as a Xray technician and then moved on to a dedicated incredible 47-year career with Tacoma General Hospital, continuing his work as a Xray technician and educator. His compassion and commitment touched the lives of hundreds of patients, students, and colleagues. In honor of his service, the “Paul Bader Hallway” stands as a tribute to his dedication and impact. He lived by the belief, “It’s not work if you love what you do.”
Throughout his life, Paul enjoyed many hobbies and passions. He loved playing tennis, working on his GTO, and in his younger years, playing guitar. He found joy in boating and waterskiing and was an avid fan of the Seattle Mariners and Seattle Seahawks. As a Seahawks fan from the very beginning, he proudly cheered them on through the years and was thrilled to witness his favorite team achieve Super Bowl victories.
Paul met Gloria while she was a student nurse, and together they built a beautiful life. They were married on March 22, 1972, and settled in University Place, Washington, where they raised their two daughters. Paul was a devoted husband and a loving father, always willing to do anything for his family. He helped shape his daughters into the strong women they are today and took great pride in guiding, supporting, and encouraging them.
Paul and Gloria shared a love of travel, especially to Maui, one of Gloria’s favorite places. After her passing, Paul carried those fond memories close to his heart.
In his later years, Paul found immense joy in being a grandfather. For the past 21 years, he was a devoted and doting grandpa, deeply cherished by his grandchildren, who had him wrapped around their fingers.
Paul will be dearly missed and forever loved. His humor, wisdom, and favorite sayings will live on through his family and all who knew him.
He is now reunited with his beloved Gloria and the family who went before him.
