Listen to Obituary

Michiko Yukawa was born on September 1, 1939, in San Francisco, California, to Shintatsu and Masako Sanada, and passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026, surrounded by family. During World War II, she and her family were among those interned at the Topaz Relocation Center. Over the years, she lived in San Francisco, Salt Lake City, Sacramento, Southern Alameda County, San Jose, and Tacoma, building a life centered on family and the temple.

She devoted countless hours to the temple and took great joy in its many activities. One of her proudest moments was earning her Tokudo, an ordination in Jodo Shinshu Buddhism. She also worked as a secretary for various school districts, where her warmth, kindness, and smile touched many. Michiko loved cooking, crafting, singing in the choir, and enjoying music, but most of all she treasured time spent with her family.

Michiko is survived by her husband of 65 years, Rev. Kosho Yukawa, and their three children, Mayumi Ikeda, Misa Nguyen, and Gensho Yukawa, along with their spouses; her beloved grandchildren, Akemi Ikeda and Taishi Ikeda; her younger brother; and many nieces and nephews.

She will be remembered with love and gratitude by all who knew her.
