Michael Alexander Tucci devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, businessman, and community leader passed away peacefully on March 1st 2026 surrounded by the love of his family. He was born October 14th, 1940 in Tacoma to Michael J. and Josephine Tucci (Marsico).
Mike attended a one room schoolhouse in McMillan prior to enrolling at St. Patrick’s school. He graduated Bellarmine Preparatory School in 1957 at the age of 16. He went on to graduate Gonzaga University in 1961, a place that would forever hold a special place in his heart. While at Gonzaga, Mike met the love of his life, Mary Jo McKinnon. They were married on November 18, 1961. Mary Jo passed peacefully on October 29, 2018 with Mike and Family at her side, culminating a 57 year marriage.
Mike is survived by his children Michael F. (Mimi), Timothy F. (Barbara), and Maria J. Sessler (Jon): six grandchildren: Michael Sessler (Haley), Madeline Miller (Cade), Mary Kathleen Smith (Jared), Sarah Forsyth (Peter), Tim Tucci Jr. (Ashleigh), and Michael D. Tucci (fiancée Christina Caruso), and his eight great grandchildren.
Personally, he dedicated 40 years to Tucci and Son’s. Under his leadership the company contributed to numerous significant projects throughout the region including the construction of the Tacoma Dome, and many city, county and state road improvements that continue to serve the community today.
Additionally, he served as president of Tacoma’s Triple A baseball team and served on the Board of Directors of Western Community Bank, Sound Bank, Regence Blue Shield, and Bellarmine Preparatory School, and the Gonzaga University Board of Regents. His integrity, vision and steady leadership left a lasting mark on Tacoma, Pierce County, and the Pacific Northwest.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mike was deeply committed to serving his community. He was a passionate supporter of Catholic Education and helping those most in need, particularly the homeless and the hungry. He championed multiple fund-raising campaigns for Bellarmine Prep, the Greater Tacoma Community Foundation, Emergency Food Network, Hunger Walk, Nativity House, and L ’Arche Tahoma Hope, Tacoma Rescue Mission/Good Neighbor Village Project,. His generosity and dedication to the community helped to strengthen the institutions so that future generations will benefit.
Mike loved traveling with Mary Jo and friends, sharing good wine and laughter. He cherished time spent with his family, whether it be a dinner, a celebration, or rooting on his beloved Gonzaga Bulldog Basketball team.
His legacy is one of faith, family, hard work, humility, and service to the community. He built not only roads and buildings, but also relationships, opportunities, and community, all made stronger by his presence.
