Leon Hill

1930 — 2020

Gig Harbor, Washington

Leon passed away on Thanksgiving Day 2020 in Gig Harbor, WA, at the age of 90. He is survived by his children Leonard (Cathy), Julie, Maureen (Eric), Kathryn (Sean), Monica (Dave), grandchildren Emma, Hillary, Cooper and sisters Shirley, Luanne & Allene.

Leon served in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Korean War, and after completing his service finished a degree in mechanical engineering at Gonzaga University.  He was a proud ‘Zag who often wore his school colors.

For several years after graduation Leon worked designing nuclear reactors in various parts of the country, then moved back to his native Washington to take a job with the Boeing Company, where he worked until retirement.

Leon maintained a garden throughout his life.  At age 82, he became a vegan.  He enjoyed harvesting, sharing, and eating his garden salads that included home grown tomatoes.

He was an active member of St. Paul Parish in Seattle and later St. Nicholas Parish in Gig Harbor, volunteering for the St Vincent de Paul Society in both places.

A quiet, gentle presence throughout his life, Leon was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He will be missed. For Leon, his passing means that he rejoins his remarkable wife Mary in eternal love, peace and joy.

Mass of Catholic Burial and interment will be for family members only.  A celebration of life ceremony is planned for 2021.  To be notified of the date and time of the ceremony, please e-mail:  LeonMemorial@gmail.com
