Steilacoom

Listen to Obituary

Kerry (Kimiko) Brewer On May 18, 2026 Kerry (Kimiko) Brewer of Steilacoom passed away at the age of 98 with her family by her side. She was a dedicated and deeply loved mother, grandmother, and cherished friend.

She was born February 24, 1928 in Nagoya City, Japan. Growing up, she was raised by her mother and grandmother-a skilled seamstress and tailor who passed down their craft. She carried this creative legacy forward, sewing clothes for her own children after she married and started her family. She had a vibrant spirit who loved to dance, starting in her teen years with her friends in Japan and throughout her whole life. At just 19 years old, my mother went from going to nursing school to working in the hospital. Driven by the urgent demand for medical personnel during the war her nursing education was rapidly accelerated. She became a fully qualified nurse in the midst of a crisis. She met her husband Earl in 1960 while working at the hospital at Yokota Air Force Base. They married in ’61 and had their first child Eddie in ’62. Shortly after, they moved to the United States where Earl was stationed at McCord Air Force Base, and their second son Ken was born in 1964.

In 1967, her husband tragically passed away unexpectedly, leaving her to raise two young children alone. She dedicated herself to caring for her kids, and her strength, faith, and resilience made her a truly loving mother. Education held a significant place in her life, and she made sure to emphasize its importance from a young age for both her sons and grandchildren, all of whom have graduated from college. Three of them have pursued advanced degrees. She was very proud of all her grandchildren and their accomplishments!

Kerry dedicated many years as a cook and housekeeper at St. John Bosco Church under Father Ed Norris. After some time, she was introduced to his friend from Ireland, Father Seamus Laverty. Kerry worked with him for over 40 years across various locations such as Everett, Chehalis, and Tacoma, with her longest service being over 20 years at St. Patrick’s Church. Throughout her journey, she formed numerous special friendships in the different parishes and established a lifelong bond with Father Seamus, who became like family to her. Kerry cherished time with her family and grandchildren, enthusiastically supporting them at soccer matches, track meets and school events. She also enjoyed water aerobics and gathering with her friends over coffee and doughnuts. In her 60’s, she took up golf and quickly became an amazing golfer with a graceful, natural swing.

Our family wants to thank all her amazing caregivers Becky and Kathy from Visiting Angels, Mary, her dear friend and the Franciscan Hospice team for all the love, support and care for our dear mother. You have all been Angels with our mothers care.

Kerry is survived by her her oldest son and his wife and two children: Eddie and Melissa, Dan & Ally and her son Ken and his children Cole, Cade, Cannon, Cali, Isla & Asher.

Her Love for her family and life will be greatly missed. We will cherish all the amazing wonderful memories with our loving mom, grandmother and friend. Her generous spirit touched many lives. We look forward that we will all be reunited again! We Love you mom.

Memorial service will be held June 20, 2026 at Calvary Cemetery Chapel at 2:30pm, reception dinner to follow at Meadow Park Golf Course.
