Mary Judith (Egan) Wood passed away October 5, 2025. Judy was born on April 25, 1937, in Woodstock Ontario to Edward F. and Barbara P. Egan. The second of four children. At age 13, her family moved to Tacoma, Washington in March of 1951, and she attended Saint Patrick Catholic School, and graduated from Aquinas Academy in 1955. She rode the train from Tacoma to Pullman (all by herself) to attend Washington State College. She began a degree in Home Economics, interested in Fabric and Design, and was an amazing seamstress. She switched majors to Education after her freshmen year. It was at Washington State College where she met Rex Patrick Wood Sr. who would later become her husband. Following the death of her father, she transferred to the College of Puget Sound where she graduated with her teaching degree in 1959.
Judy married Rex Patrick (Pat) on August 8, 1959. Together they moved to Baltimore, Maryland where she taught school and supported them while Pat attended Dental School. Upon his completion of school in 1962, They moved back to Tacoma. She continued to teach school at Franklin and Geiger elementaries until 1966 when they started their family and adopted Rex (Jr) in 1966, followed by the birth of their second son Joe in 1967 and daughter Emily in 1969. She was a full-time mother in the 70’s and 80’s as well as volunteering with Mary Bridge Children's Orthopedic and the Junior League of Tacoma.
Judy was an avid tennis player and lifelong member of the Tacoma Lawn Tennis Club. She was a competitive Ice Skater in her youth, she played piano beautifully. She loved painting with friends each week. She was a great cook and grew vegetables in her yard. She has been a member of the Saint Patrick’s community since moving to Tacoma in 1951.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and older sister Emily. Judy leaves behind her husband Rex (Pat), her siblings, Barbara, and John, and her children, Rex (Rachel), Joe (Paige), and Emily (Paul), as well as her grandchildren she loved and was very proud of, Lillian, Thomas, Finnegan, and Elizabeth.

Services will be at Saint Patrick Church in Tacoma on October 24th at 11:00. Reception to follow in the parish hall.
