Joseph Underwood

Obituary Joseph L. Underwood died Friday, April 1, 2005 at the age of 82, surrounded by his family. He was born in Tacoma on Nov. 28, 1922 to Floyd and Margaret Underwood. He was a lifelong resident of Tacoma and member of Visitation Parish. Joe was a graduate of Visitation Grade School and Bellarmine Prep. He was a WWII Navy veteran, then moved on to Civil Service work as a Systems Analyst at Fort Lewis until his retirement. Joe was lovingly devoted to his family and church. He was a huge sports fan. For years he coached Little League Football and enjoyed watching the Seahawks and Mariners. He was very proud to be a member of the American Legion, Bellarmine Boosters, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and the Order of Odd Fellows. During his retirement years, Joe could always be found working in his garden. Joe is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dorothy Mazza; brother Eugene and daughter Nora. He is survived by Mary (Peg) his wife of 54 years; children Mary Sue (Carlos) Velarde, Michael (Kim) Underwood, Margaret (Don) Forseth, Steve (Maxine) Underwood, Kevin (Tamara) Underwood, Maria (Tom) Padukiewicz, Katie Underwood, Chris (Jeff) DeWitt, 14 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass will celebrated Friday, April 8, 2005, 11:00 am at Visitation Church. Rosary will be recited Thursday, April 7, 2005 at 7:00 pm, also at the Church. Interment at Calvary Cemetery.
