Joseph Spatafore

December 10, 1916 — January 18, 2012

Obituary Joseph Ernest Spatafore, a lifelong Tacoma resident, born December 10, 1916, died January 18, 2012. He graduated from Bellarmine and continued to be a supporter of their sports program for 55 years. He and his wife Louise were awarded a certificate of loyalty to Bellarmine sports in 1983. Joe loved all sports and was the city marble champion at the age of 12, as an adult he bowled for many company teams. An exceptional fast pitch player, he was quite proud of the fact that as a centerfielder, he could get the jump on the ball and made numerous spectacular catches. He especially enjoyed his rounds of golf at the PLU course, where he achieved his hole in one. It was truly a sad day when he could no longer join his friends at the course. Joe received a cap with the words "Hole in One" from his hospice volunteer Bee that he wore until the very end. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Louise; sister, Lucy Spatafore; nieces and nephews, Richard and Doreen Costanti, Nancy Star, Gene and Jean Pentimonti, Richard and Hillary Pentimonti as well as numerous grand nieces and grand nephews. Louise would like to thank everyone for their care and support throughout Joe's illness. She would like to especially thank the Tacoma Fire Department, Joe's primary physician, Dr. Jay Sachs, Dr. James Wilson, Multicare and Franciscan Hospice, the staff at the Village and her many friends neighbors and family members without whom she would never have been able to get through this. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, January 26, 2012, 11:00 am at the Gaffney Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment at Calvary Cloisters to follow. Arrangements by Gaffney Funeral Home, 253-572-6003.
