JANE PATTERSON HAWKINS
DECEMBER 14, 1944 - FEBRUARY 20, 2026
“She is a woman of strength and dignity and has no fear of old age. When she speaks, her words are wise, and kindness is the rule for everything she says.” Proverbs 31:25-27
With deep sorrow, John Patterson and his wife Gail share the passing of John’s beloved sister Jane, on February 20, 2026. Her spirit was carried gently to heaven in the arms of angels on the birthday of Jane’s mother, Margaret. Jane passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. She was their greatest supporter. Her presence in their life was a wonderful gift as they navigated life’s journey together. Jane had unwavering faith and deeply loved God. She often talked about God and shared how God took care of her all her life. She loved and adored her family and friends with all her heart. Jane was visited by her entire immediate family in the hospital before her passing. Her first words to each of us upon entering her hospital room were “I love you so much” as she reached out for a hug.
Jane was born in Tacoma, WA, the daughter of Thomas and Margaret Patterson. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1962. In 1963, she began her banking career. She had a passion and love for banking and became an Assistant Bank Manager before her retirement. In 1989, Jane married the love of her life, Thomas Hawkins on St. Patrick’s Day. They lived in Escondido, California for many years on an amazing horse ranch where Tom raised and trained racehorses. They enjoyed traveling together to take their horses to competitions. Tom owned a small airplane and one of Jane’s proudest moments was when she got her license to fly. She was so excited to be able to take her husband on a flight on his airplane as a passenger. They eventually moved back to Tacoma, Washington to be closer to family. Tom sadly passed away in 2007, and Jane missed him every day.
Jane enjoyed many hobbies and interests, was an avid reader and a gifted seamstress. She designed many intricate and beautiful Baptismal outfits for her great nieces and nephews. Jane made many memorable trips to New York with her dearest friend and sewing buddy, Jo Hutchins, and their sewing group. They enjoyed searching for designer fabrics and shared a special bond traveling together. She also sewed clothing for many family members and even sewed raincoats for our family pets. She was awarded many blue ribbons at the Puyallup Fair for sewing projects that she entered in the sewing competitions. Jane loved all animals and had many pets during her lifetime. Jane did not have children, but she loved her brother John’s three children like her own. She took them overnight often and planned fun outings and adventures with them. She was an incredibly special Auntie to her great nieces and nephews. She taught some of them to sew and they loved playing games with her and watching movies together.
Jane loved the holidays, especially Christmas and Thanksgiving. She gifted her great nieces and nephews beautiful Radko ornaments for many years on Christmas and selected ornaments that had special meaning to them. On Thanksgiving, we all enjoyed her signature homemade cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes and dinner rolls.
Jane is survived by her brother John and his wife Gail, three step- children, Tom and David Hawkins and Nancy Senn, six nieces and nephews, ten great nieces and nephews and many extended family members.
We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Eliseo Rehab and Assisted Living Retirement Home and to St. Joseph Hospital Drs. and nurses for their compassionate care of Jane. We are also grateful for the wonderful spiritual support from the hospital chaplains and from Father Marc Powell from St. Charles Borromeo Church.
In lieu of flowers, please consider sending a gift in memory of Jane Hawkins to:
