James Edward Simpkins, Sr.

James Edward Simpkins Sr. was born on October 21, 1936, in Brewster, Florida, to Eddie and Verdell Simpkins. He was raised in Jacksonville, Florida, alongside his siblings, Doris, Emanuel ("Tony"), Yvonne, Barbara, and Willie. Raised with strong family values and a deep respect for others, James carried those lessons with him throughout his life. His siblings often remarked that he was just like his father, whose example helped shape the man he would become.

Jim proudly served his country for 26 years in the United States Army. His military service reflected a lifelong commitment to duty, perseverance, and selfless service—qualities that remained with him throughout his life.

On August 5, 2026, Jim passed peacefully while surrounded by the voices and love of his family. He was 89 years old.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Patricia Marie Simpkins, whom he married on February 14, 1983; his children, Kevin, James Jr., Tony, Michael, Sylvester, Dianne, James Jr., and Tyrone; along with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and many dear friends.
