Elizabeth “Betty” Ann (Imhof) Burgi, of Tacoma, WA, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 21st at the age of 89.
Born in Auburn, WA to Paul and Isabell Imhof, Betty grew up in Fife, WA. Betty was the youngest of the four Imhof children, Isabell Kaelin, Joseph Imhof, and Louise Burgener, all deceased. She attended Fife Elementary School and St. Leo High School where she took her studies very seriously. She met her husband Joseph (Joe), at a very young age working together in the bean and berry fields and attending Swiss festivals. While they always had their eyes on each other, they didn’t fall in love until high school where Joe was a football player and she was cheerleader. They were married September, 1955 at St. Martin of Tours, Fife, WA and celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary before her passing.
Family was the cornerstone of Betty’s life. She is survived by her husband, Joe, children Cindi (Dan) Nelson, Greg (Judy) Burgi, Terri Ann Burgi (deceased); grandchildren, Daniel (Ellerey) Nelson, Emily (Drew) Austin, Dominic (Caitlyn) Burgi, Hannah Burgi; great-grandchildren Claire, Cora, Rhett, Magnolia, Millie, Bradley, Matthew, and soon to be born, Baby Burgi.
A Celebration of Betty’s life will be on Thursday, October 30th at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, Fife, WA. Rosary starting at 10:15 am followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Reception will follow Mass at the Swiss Sportsmen’s Club, Bonney Lake, WA.
