Camilla “Claire” McCaffrey

Claire was the 6th child of Walter and Violet Haniger. Mom spent her early years on McNeil Island where her dad worked and took the ferry (while playing cards with the guards) to the mainland to attend school. Mom graduated from St. Leo’s High School and St. Joe’s School of Nursing. She spent her entire 46 year career at St. Joe’s in the nursery and loved every minute.

Mom married the love of her life, Robert Michael, on February 12, 1949, and had seven children; Rob (Loan), Jo Ann (Gene), Becky (Don), Jim (Sharla), Tim (Janet), Mary Ellen (Tim), and Patrick. While working graveyard at the hospital she coached her daughters in softball and volleyball and was Den mother to her sons in Cub Scouts. Mom spent a lot of time driving us kids and friends to sporting events and still managed to always have dinner on the table each night. She enjoyed her trips with Dad to the ocean and Hawaii and also to Lake Tahoe with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed bingo, the casino and was a whiz at pinochle.

Thanksgiving and Christmas were her favorite times when the whole family would get together for good food, laughs and games. We can never express how much our mom meant to us and we will miss her presence dearly. Although all mom’s children provided care we want to particularly thank Tim and Patrick for her everyday care so she could remain in her home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, eight of her siblings, her husband Robert, and grandson Adam.

She is survived by her sister, Margie Dube, her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, November 29, 2025 from 1pm-3pm at the Fircrest Community Center.
