David Poe Obituary

Obituary David Myers Poe David peacefully passed away on July 1, 2018. He was born in Tacoma, WA on Aug. 21, 1917 to Robert Burns Poe, Sr. and Elsie Grumbling Poe. He celebrated his 100th birthday last summer with his family! Dave graduated from Stadium High School in Tacoma and the University of Washington in 1941 with a BA in Economics and Business. He was a practicing CPA (Certified Public Accountant) who retired at the age of 87. He was known as a kind, steady, even-keeled man devoted to supporting his family. He and his wife Marie, also known as Mickey, met in Tacoma and married 6 months later in 1947. They soon had 3 daughters who became "the Poe girls." Because of having polio at the age of 8 he was unable to serve in the military, but he did not let this slow him down. He was quite a sports fan. He loved to play golf and was a member of the Fircrest Golf Club and the Elks club. His constant quiet faith in God guided his life. He and Marie made sure their girls attended church and the local Catholic elementary and high schools. David was predeceased by his loving wife Marie Theresa McGuire Poe who passed away Nov. 2, 2011 at the age of 87. His daughter Patricia Poe Cvitovich, passed Sept 12, 2001 at the age of 52. His younger brother Robert Burns Poe, Jr. passed in 2009 at the age of 86 and his older sister Helen Poe Goodrich passed last year at the age of 100. Dave is survived by two daughters Pamela Poe Schmid, Janet Poe Boyer (David) and son-in-law Thomas Cvitovich (Linda). He has 9 grandchildren: Jason Cook (Alicia), Pierson Ryan, Katie Cvitovich Mallory (James), Sean Boyer (Jenny), Paul Boyer (Rachael), Amy Cvitovich Carlson (Marty), Eric Boyer (Sarah), Martin Cvitovich and Cheri Landoyer (Jacob). He has 15 great-grandchildren and one more on the way: Robert Cook, son of Jason; Ellie, Violet & Rocco Mallory, children of Katie & James; Samuel, Aiden & Ronnie Boyer, sons of Sean & Jenny; Wyatt, Emery & River Carlson, children of Amy & Marty; Ruby Boyer & sister to be born in Nov., daughters of Paul & Rachael; Noah, Grace, Micah & Faith Boyer, children of Eric & Sarah. The family greatly appreciates and thanks the wonderful staff of Bridgeport Place Assisted Living who loved and helped care for David over the last 7 years. Dad, Grandpa, Great-grandpa we will all greatly miss you, but we know that you are now at home with the Lord and with those in the family and your friends who went before you. We love you!
